WHAT IS BOLLYWOOD?
Bollywood is a term that refers to the Indian film industry. People sometimes wonder why the name “Bollywood”? As the Indian Film Industry is based in Bombay, the ‘H’ from Hollywood has been replaced by the ‘B’ in Bollywood. Nearly all Indian films are musicals like the western films - ‘The sound of music’, ‘Grease’ or ‘Moulin Rouge’ and packed with songs and dances, which are sometimes referred to as Bollywood songs and Bollywood dances.

 

The dances can incorporate a fusion of both Eastern and Western choreography which makes it appealing to audiences from all cultural backgrounds. Bollywood is one of the fastest growing dance forms in the UK, proving to be extremely popular amongst people of all ages. With performing arts and entertainment becoming such a global industry, Bollywood is being welcomed by audiences across the world.

ACCREDITATION

Launch of Bollywood syllabus - Amateur medal tests and professional assessments

Exams using the Bollywood dance syllabus can be implemented by any professional dance body, using their standard examination procedures, so that their members and others are given the opportunity to take Bollywood exams and accredited certification can be offered through their organisation. IAMIA can also be promoted as the Indian Performing Arts branch of any professional dance body to offer ongoing advice, guidance and training programs. Medal and award insert designs incorporating the “Natraj symbol” (see below) and the IAMIA logo to print on certification to authenticate the qualification will be provided to support any Bollywood examinations being offered to pupils, students and members by the professional Dance Body. IAMIA will also ensure that professional examiners are being provided and / or trained for Bollywood exams being assessed.
